IPICA Entrepreneurship Workshop in Trinidad

Date:

Tuesday, January 12, 2016 to Thursday, January 14, 2016

Venue:

The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus

After a successfully concluded business idea competition, the winners of the IPICA idea challenge received an intense 3-day entrepreneurship bootcamp. Business models were improved together with experts from Europe, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and the Dominican Republic. In the forthcoming months mentors will further support the entrepreneurs on their way to market.

The third capacity building workshop of the IPICA Project was held at the premises of The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus in Trinidad, from the 12th to the 14th of January 2016. The training workshop organised by the University of Alicante, IPICA project coordinator, in coordination with FH JOANNEUM, supported entrepreneurs on social and environmental business model development. One exemplary result of the bootcamp is a crowdfunding initiative by one of the entrepreneurs, the Battery Guy! Feel free to support this truly social and environmental initiative that holds potential to changing the lives of many people in tropical regions around the world: https://www.patreon.com/batteryguy

The workshop gathered the 6 winners of the IPICA idea challenge, as well as the project partners and associates. Experts from Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), The University of the West Indies (UWI), Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining in Jamaica (MSTEM), World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), Caribbean Community Secretariat (CARICOM) and Intellectual Property Office in Trinidad (TTIPO) delivered the programme.

Prior to the workshop, the project partners held a coordination meeting to review project progress and plan the project activities to be undertaken in the upcoming months.
